Here are some of our favorite hikes:

Big Meadows Lake Trail #839 (Archuleta Trail)


Distance: 2 Miles to Weminuche wilderness border


Difficulty: Intermediate, elevation gain of 3,000 ft.



Starting at Big Meadows Lake, walk around or take the Archuleta Lake trail at the upper end of the lake.

Giant Fir Tree Trail


Distance: 1/2 mile


Difficulty: Beginner to Intermediate



Trail starts at the end of Beaver Creek Reservoir, on the left side marked "The Fir".

Hunter’s Lake #800


Distance: 1 mile


Difficulty: Beginner to Intermediate (11,000 - 11,400ft.)



Trailhead past Big Meadows by 11 miles. Begins at wilderness boundary, continue around the lake to the Highland and Tie Hill trails.

Middle Alder Creek #797


Distance: 5 Miles


Difficulty: Intermediate



First switchback past Alder Creek Guard Station is the trail starting point. The trail crosses over a small creek with a lot of windfall. Roughly 4 miles up you’ll find an abandoned cabin and sawmill site. Motorcycle friendly.

Million Reservoir


Distance: 1/2 mile


Difficulty: Beginner (8,700ft.)



Access parking lot from Beaver Creek Road drive about 5 miles away.

Tewksberry Trail #842


Distance: 5 miles


Difficulty: Intermediate



Follow Beaver Creek Road a few miles until you the sign "Tewksberry Trail" on the right. Follow that road and stay to the right. Behind the horse corrals you can find the trail.Motorcycle friendly.

Crater Lake Trail #707


Distance 4 1/2 miles


Difficulty: Strenuous, with elevation gain of 2,000 ft.



Take road #380 until you the Crater Lake trail marker.

Highland #832


Distance: 1/2 mile


Difficulty: Intermediate (10,500-12,200ft.)



Follow Big Meadows road until the dead-end, the trail starts on your left side.

Spruce Lakes #710


Distance: 3-4 miles to intersection then 3/4 mile

Take Big Meadows road, Archuleta trail to intersection with trail 750, turn left onto 710 intersection
